How can Active Herts help you?

If you live in the boroughs of Broxbourne, Hertsmere, Stevenage or Watford and are looking to make a change but not sure where to start, contact your local Get Active Specialist to book a FREE consultation. You’ll meet one of the team at your local doctor’s surgery or community venue to discuss how you can take your first steps towards a more active lifestyle.

Over a period of twelve weeks or more, you will receive 1:1 support from your Get Active Specialist to make getting active as easy as possible. To do this, our staff will work with you to develop a personal Get Active Plan. We will help you find local, low cost ways of how to start being active.

So whether it’s motivation, advice, or support that you need to change, your Get Active Specialist is there to support you.

Your first appointment

At this appointment you and your Get Active Specialist will talk about the steps you can take to start getting active. Together you will look at what you want to achieve, how to get there and how we can support you. This will include agreeing your personal Get Active plan to guide you. They will also help to find a local activity or sport session to suit your needs.

Two week catch up

After two weeks your Get Active Specialist will give you a call to see how you are getting on with your plan. You will discuss progress so far and how you are feeling about being more active. If you feel you would like some motivation or extra guidance at this stage, you will be able to book another free appointment to talk about any concerns you may have.

Three month review

After three months, your Specialist will contact you to book in a review. This will be a chance to look at your progress so far and see how you’re getting on. At this appointment, you can discuss how you are feeling, identify any health improvements and develop your plan for the coming months.

Six month follow up

Hopefully you are sticking to your plan and are feeling the benefits of being more active. Your Get Active Specialist will contact you to arrange a telephone or one-to-one review to see how you are getting on. Further support may be offered to help motivate you to keep active.

To access our free support, please make sure you can answer ‘YES’ to the following questions:

  • Do you currently do less than 30 minutes of physical activity that raises your breathing each week?
  • Are you over the age of 16?

FAQs
I do not live in Broxbourne, Hertsmere, Stevenage or Watford. Can I still access the free consultations?

Unfortunately no. The way Active Herts is funded means that we can only provide support to local residents living in Broxbourne, Hertsmere, Stevenage or Watford.

Where are your appointments held?

What should I expect at my first appointment?

At this appointment you and your Get Active Specialist will talk about the steps you can take to start getting active. Together you will look at what you want to achieve, how to get there and how we can support you. This will include agreeing your personal Get Active Plan to guide you. Your Specialist will also help to find a local activity or sport session to suit your needs. Active Herts is working with the University of East Anglia Medical School to evaluate this service. As part of this study, we ask every client to complete a screening questionnaire to help understand your current situation. We recommend you arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your appointment to ensure there is enough time to complete the questionnaire.

I need to cancel / rearrange my appointment, who do I contact?

Based on the area you live, please contact your local Get Active Specialist to let them know in good time.

I have had my initial consultation, but feel I am lacking motivation and need more support. Can I access more free consultations?

Yes. We offer free consultations up to 12 weeks to help you get active. We will always give you a two week follow up phone call after your first consultation. However, should you wish to come in and see us again just contact us to arrange a convenient date. After 12 weeks, we will contact you again at 6 months and 12 months to see if you have sustained your level of physical activity.
